The Advanced Open Water Course

Prerequisite: You must be a qualified PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent with any other recognised diving organisation to be eligible for the Advanced Open Water course.

Divers must be 15 years old or 12 years old for junior Advanced Open Water

Well done on passing your open water course, now you are ready to take the next step in your diving.

The Advanced Open Water course, is designed to continue building all the skills you previously learnt in your Open Water course and allows you the diver to become more
comfortable in the water and improve your existing skills.

The Two Compulsory Advanced Open Water Dives

The Advance Open Water course comprises of five adventure dives 2 of which are core dives and are compulsory. These two dives are ‘Underwater Navigation’ and ‘Deep Water Diving’.

Underwater Navigation: On the Underwater Navigation dive, you will learn how to use a compass and you will have great fun putting those skills into practice.  Once you have learnt how to use a compass, you will have the chance to navigate underwater and will be taught how to successfully perform a ‘Square Pattern’. This dive is fun and the majority of student go on to complete the Navigation speciality course.

The Deep Dive: The deep dive usually takes place in water up to 30 metres and on this dive, you will learn how water disperses colour and you will also learn how to use a ‘Drop
Tank’.

Three Other Dives Of Your Choice To Complete The Advanced Open Water

The next part of the course comprises of 3 others dives of your choice.

There are plenty of different dives to choose from and you can choose the dives that most appeal to you. The list of dives are as follows:

Boat Diving

Deep Diving

Diver propulsion vehicle use

Drift Diving

Dry suit Diving

Multilevel and Computer Diving

Night Diving

Peak Performance Buoyancy

Search and Recovery

Underwater Naturalist

Underwater Navigator

Underwater Photography

Underwater Videography

Wreck Diving.

Once you have successfully completed all the dives, you will be a fully qualified Advanced Open Water Diver. This is when most new divers can really begin to enjoy their diving and also improve their skills and diving by completing some of the ‘Speciality’ course along the way. A great course that many divers take is the EFR (Emergency First Responder) course which is a great qualification to have and also goes towards your Rescue Diver course, should you wish to take it.
